Future Concept for Moleskine - Replicate

Brief
By analysing trends and contextual issues design a conceptual product for 10-15 years in the future for a brand of your choice.

Our team of 5 produced a Brand Report for Moleskine which can be seen in more detail here.
Through research into the Moleskine Brand on contextual issues such as: users, trends and brand identity we discovered Moleskine is currently moving into the digital realm through the form of Apps and collaboration with Evernote. It faces the challenge of maintaining the authentic and tactile experience present in its current procucts, whilst integrating new technologies. The transformation of a nameless object into one containing personality of its user is an essential element of a Moleskine notebook.

The outcome of this research was an overall group future direction shown below:
"Moleskine will develop innovative platforms for
creating and storing ideas through
an authentic and tactile experience"
Adcept
A tool for 3D stylists
The culmination of work resulted in a multifunctional tool with a 3D scanner that turns the modelled design into 3D CAD data. It captures the craftmanship feel and inperfections of handmaking an object into a design that can then be developed for manufacture or replicated around the Globe using 3D printing making it a great way to collaborate and quickly share ideas. The real time scanning means you can rerun how you made a design or go back in time if you preferred a previous instance.

Digital technology is taking over how people create in our daily lives, but the results lack the personality gained through anologue techniques. Currently there is a gap in the market between CAD and physical modeling. This device aims to act as a combination between the two incorporating the satisfactory and enjoyable elements of craft using digital technology to enhance the experience and future development.

The device is aimed towards 3D stylists who wish to make numerous iterations of a model or inject their own personality into their work. Once an idea has been converted to CAD data it can be 3D printed using this as the basis to create new ideas and iterations. It is a canvas for creativity inspiring new work , encouraging iterations and thorough styling development.
Modularity
The metallic components wear over it’s lifetime generating a distinctive patina that sentimentally bonds the user with their device. To preserve the product lifetime, modular components can be updated and replaced by removing the screw that hold the technology inside. The ever improving scanning technology can quickly be replaced and the tools swapped depending on preference or the material being worked with. This is a sustainable product through longevity that you want to keep hold of gaining value as it ages and passed down for generations.

Geometry
The form of the device originates firstly from the product function and ergonomic consdierations. It’s multifaceted style encourages the user to play with the object in their hand creating emotional attachment to the device.

Technology
Laser scanning captures geometric forms created or of other object. It has an auto correction facility much like Adobe Illustrator automatically smoothing bumpy surfaces, useful for pourus materials and recreating existing broken objects. It is wirelessly powered in line with other objects of the time. Once the object is created it is automatically stored on a cloud service, that can be accessed from any device wifi enabled device.
